  • What is MaconThonâ„ ?
    Historically, hackathons have been short term events for coders and technologist to cocreate solutions to business problems. Participants are able to refine their skills as real-world problems solvers while excercising their creative muscle. MaconThonâ„  contains elements of both a hackathon and an accelerator program, support bold thinkers who are entrepreneural and innovative at heart. Regardless of your techincal skill level MaconThonâ„  champions innovators, creatives, and social do-gooders who desire to build solutions for their community.
  • Is there an application guide?
    Yes, during the application process, you can view the application guide that can be downloaded. Once you have used the worksheet, please use the online application to submit. We cannot accept emailed, faxed, or mailed applications.
  • How can I submit the application?
    We can only accept applications via online submission. At this time, we cannot accept applications that are emailed, faxed, or mailed.
  • Who can participate?
    MaconThon is open to residents of the Macon-Middle GA Area; applicants must be over the age of 18 to participate.
  • What are the challenges?
    With the help of our partners, MaconThon has identified local challenges impacting the following areas: Community Mental Health Initiative, Downtown Macon, the City of Macon, and Scaling and creating sustainability for an existing local platform for creatives.
  • I don't have a team. Can I still apply?
    Yes, you can apply as an individual. Applicants must select a primary and seconday role they are willing to take on if placed on a team. Individuals can take on the role of Technology Lead, Project Manager, Creative, or *Disruptor*. 'Disruptor' describes someone who desires not to be confined to one focus area; Disruptors must be able to expound on the unique value they are able to bring to their team.
  • Are technical skills required?
    No. We encourage individuals of all skill levels to apply. Since the hack will be a team effort, individuals will have the opporunity to focus on developing a "niche". Each team will need (one) Tech Lead who will head up the teams tech needs.
  • Will there be a prize?
    Demo Day will include prizes, but guess what it is a surprise! But, let's just say $1,000+ may be included in the prize.
  • What support will be available to the team?
    Teams will have access to mentors and advisors along their problem solving journey. Individuals will be required to have periodic 1:1s with MaconThon organizers to communicate any needs or roadblocks faced. From these meetings, MaconThon's Community Management team will be able to identify additional resources within our greater network to support you.
  • What is the expected time committment?
    Participants are expected to attend and participate in all biweekly sessions during the 3-months. While some meetings will be facilitated virtually, participants should anticipate periodic in person meetings as well. Between classes, teams will be expect to set up times to connect with one another with regard to their build.
  • How are applicants selected?
    Applications will be evaluated on both quality and completeness. Each application will be reveiwed blindly and judged solely on the understanding of community being served, desire to use technology in resolving a problem, and overall satisfaction of application requirements.
  • What is the application process?
    All interested groups must complete a MaconThonâ„  application consisting of the following: A form filled out by each individual member. A form filled out by the Project Leader on behalf of the entire group.
